Kind of Radio and Television Shows to Look For
Christian television variety shows are a great place to share your message. Likewise there are many radio talk formats that utilize live or taped guests. Don’t, however, discount the music show. Many morning-shows, especially, are looking for interesting people who have an engaging story or message to tell. I’ve done mostly music shows my whole career and have probably interviewed 2000 people – many of them authors or speakers. The local music show may be the easiest to start with and stick with.
Unless you are a well known author or expert in your subject area, look for the local station - radio or TV - that has a local segment. Most Christian TV stations originate from one national studio and interview only nationally known guests. However, the local affiliate may have a daily or weekly segment (one hour or so) that originates from the local studio and utilizes local guests. Watch the program to see the kinds of guests they have on and the emphasis of the program. If what you offer fits what they do, call them and ask if they would be interested in having you on. If you know someone who has been a guest on that show before, talk to them about recommending you to the show host or producer.
